6 Month Update | Actualizacion de 6 Meses

Hey everyone,

Last time I wrote a blog post was 6 months ago. It's crazy how fast time flies. In the past 6 months I have gone through a lot. Not so much physically, but a lot of emotional and hard times. My health has been amazing. No complains at all. My Orencia and my Plaquenil have been working wonders having me take control of my life again. I don't feel pain at all and have no swelling majority of the time. If I wake up a little stiff or swollen it will go away throughout the day. I had a follow up appointment with my Rheumatologist and she stated I looked great and was doing amazing. My right knee has always been one of the joints that hurts the most so I mentioned to her that if I keep my right leg in one position for too long or keep it still it will feel like it locks up and I can't move it on my own. I have to use my hands to pick my leg up and slowly bend the knee until I feel like a "crack" and then it goes back to normal. She said that on my next follow up, which will be in October she will be taking X-rays to make sure its nothing serious. I have mentioned in past posts that stress makes me go through flareups or gets me swollen for a couple of days. Well, like I mentioned earlier I have gone through a lot emotionally at home. On April 28th, I lost my grandfather the one remaining out of the 3 grandparents I still had with me. It was a few hard weeks following that day. Then on June 6th-9th I flew out to Colombia (where my entire family is from) with my boyfriend for him to meet the rest of my family. It was an incredible trip, but at the same time very emotionally draining. It was the first time I was back in Medellin, Colombia and none of my grandparents were there. It was a rough few days feeling how empty their houses are without them. They feel so lonely and definitely won't ever feel the same. The most amazing thing about the trip was that I was able to bond with the rest of my family that I hadn't seen in 3 years and I can't forget how incredible it was to have my boyfriend finally meet the rest of my family. We flew back and I came back missing my grandparents so much more. It felt like I was grieving all over again. Then on June 26th, I lost one of my uncles, which till this day I still can't believe it happened. He was the jokester of the family and I still can't grasp the idea he's gone. In a matter of 2 years I have lost 4 incredible and important people in my life. My grandmother from my mother's side (08/24/17), my grandmother from my father's side (05/28/18), my grandfather from my father's side (04/28/19), and lastly my uncle from my father's side (06/26/19). They have been 2 rough years, but I know they are with me wherever I go, but I just wish I would've had more time with them and would've enjoyed them a little more. RIP to all 4 of my guardian angels. But on a happier note, I will be going to my other favorite place, which I haven't been to since 2004. I'M GOING TO THE HAPPIEST PLACE ON EARTH... DISNEY WORLD!!! I will be going with my family as well as my boyfriend and his family. It will be our first time taking such a big family vacation with both sides. I actually surprised my parents with the trip. They had no idea of anything. My boyfriend and I kept meeting with his family planning the entire trip and my parents had no idea. Once we all purchased tickets I surprised my parents with the news (the link to my Instagram post of their reaction: My Parent's reaction (SPANISH)). We will be leaving on September 2nd and I couldn't be more ecstatic. I even have a countdown on my phone, which as of right now there are only 19 days left for this incredible trip. We will be going for a whole week so we will be doing all 4 Disney Parks and doing both parks at Universal Studios. I have been slowly preparing for the trip by creating my own Mickey Ears, which you will hear all about it on the post I'll write when we come back. Since traveling with JRA could be hard, my next post will be all about what I will be packing and how I will prepare to spend a whole week in Orlando, Florida for the parks. I will go into detail what I will be taking including, medication, braces and any other type of medication that will be taken just as a precaution. Keep an eye out for the next post that should be going up in about 2 weeks while I am packing.

   *Stronger than Arthritis*

Hola Todos,

No he sentido dolores fuertes, ni me he inflamado mucho. A DISNEY WORLD en Orlando, Florida.

My 3 Month Struggle | 3 Meses de Lucha

Hey Everyone,

The past 3 months have been extremely difficult. On my last post on my 1 year anniversary I explained that my Xeljanz XR was no longer working for me. Since 11/11/17 I have seen my Rheumatologist about 3 times and have been to her office about 7 times (once every week). I was switched to Orencia (abatacept) ClickJect 125mg and after the first dosage I felt the change right away. I felt a bit better and was capable of running up and down the stairs again. After that injection, I believed I was going to have control of my life again. Little did I know I was going to go through a rough 7 weeks. I had so many issues between my insurance and getting my medication. My doctor's office kept going back and fourth with them in order for them to give me the medication I NEEDED! The insurance kept denying my medication and a couple of people at the doctor's office were starting to get really mad at the fact I needed the medication and was not getting it. My doctor had to appeal the insurance's decision 3 times and by the 3rd time I was hoping it would work. Nope, the 3rd appeal did not work. The insurance was not having it and the insurance wanted to send me a medication that THEY believed was BEST for me when my Rheumatologist has never worked with that medication. She didn't even really know the side effects neither did she know if it was a pre-filled syringe or a pen or even if it hurt or not. I find it ridiculous that an insurance was telling my PROFESSIONAL DOCTOR what to prescribe to me. But long story short, the insurance did not allow me to get Orencia AT ALL. Next step was to try to get on a patient assistant program to receive my Orencia. Well, it started off smoothly, but once again insurance intervened in their decision. At this point I gave up and did not see any reason to continue fighting. I got depressed (currently still am) and just got it into my head that I was just going to continue to live life with excruciating pain and not be able to do the things I loved to do. I had lost all hope of getting my life back. My doctor decided to prescribe me Plaquenil to help me in the meantime as well as alongside the Orencia if I would ever get it. I saw it helped me with the pain. I was even reconsidering if I needed any more medication, but since my flare has been so bad I knew I had to be on more than just Plaquenil. There was just one more thing we could possibly try to get my medication. This was already 5 weeks in. The company who manufactures Orencia have a foundation in order to help when issues like this arise for a patient. It took a little while for everything to be processed, but on 12/31/18 I received the phone call that I was approved by the foundation to receive my medication with no charge! What a perfect way to end the year right? I am telling you, it's been a long 3 months for me. Throughout all this time my doctor was extremely helpful and was giving me sample shots when they were available, but that meant I would have to go without medication until more samples came in. For the last 2 weeks I had been off the Orencia completely due to the fact they had no more samples available. Friday 01/11/19, I finally received the delivery of my Orencia and seeing the package just made me tear of joy because maybe I will be getting my life back again.  Overall, my pain has been from a 1-10 scale, at a 10 most of the days. December 20th was my 13th year anniversary being diagnosed with my JRA. The holidays were so rough for me. Reminded me a lot about when I was first diagnosed and had to spend the holidays in bed because I couldn't walk. These past holidays it was so hard that it made me feel even more depressed for the simple fact of feeling pain and not being able to feel comfortable. I also celebrated my 25th birthday just a month ago and even that I wasn't crazy excited about like I usually am. The pain has taken over my life. I haven't been myself for a couple of months and it brings me down so much. I can say that my JRA has officially taken control of my life completely. I'm hoping that maybe ONE day I will be back to enjoying life how I was. The pain I have felt has made me envy people who can walk without feeling pain and do their every day life without any limitations. I feel like during my remissions I have taken life for granted. I never enjoyed the ability to do every single thing without limitations or without feeling pain. If I ever reach remission again, I will take advantage of every second being able to do my every day life all over again. I hope I will be able to write about improvement the next blog post, but I am just taking it day by day. Just typing this post up took me 3 months only because my hands get extremely tired and start hurting after a typing a couple of sentences. I hope I will have better news for you all on my next post.

   *Stronger than Arthritis*

Hola Todos!

No me quedaban esperanzas.
